**SCHEDULING:

*  If you are unable to attend your scheduled lesson, you must give 24 hours advance notice in order to reschedule. Students are responsible for rescheduling their own lessons to another date/time by using the calendar on my website —

         www.timothygarrettstudios.com

*If adequate notice is not provided, the lesson is forfeit & is not refundable.

*There is also a 2-month statute of limitations on missed lessons.

*New students must commit to a minimum of 6 months of lessons in order to begin

 lessons.

**REQUIRED ITEMS for Your Cello Journey:

 *A practice notebook — I strongly suggest “Musician’s Practice Planner: A Weekly

Lesson Planner for Music Students” by Molto Music/Hal Leonard. Alternatively, a  dedicated notebook will do. (Bring this to your lesson each week.)

*Pencil (for making                      notes and marking up                music)

             *Tuner

             *Metronome

             *Cello

             *Bow

             *Rosin

*An attitude for having               a good time learning                  all about cello!

**PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS:

*Each student sets personal goals in a discussion with me. If we haven’t done this already, please ask! Goals will be different for each student.

*There are many wonderful opportunities you can choose from to advance your cello studies outside of your studio lessons. (See Below).

*Make a little time for structured practice everyday. Develop habitual study practices.

*Ask yourself, “Am I happy with my progress and commitment to my artistic craft? If your answer is, “No”, take steps to repair that.

*Make sure your practice space is quiet, organized, and stocked with all the necessary cello practice aids.

*Make sure your friends and family understand that your cello practice is a ritual and

important to you. Also, it is very important to play for fun whenever you want! This is not the same as practicing.

**GOALS AND OPPORTUNITIES for cellists of all ages:

*Younger students frequently make their school orchestra and the BSO youth ensembles their goal.

*If a student is more advanced & already participating in those groups, they may try for

All-State or a summer music festival or a future college scholarship, etc.

*Some may simply want a creative outlet for themselves. All ages have enjoyed my cello chamber music program that is available throughout the year. Ask me for more info if you’re interested in a chamber group and/or any other opportunities.

**SUGGESTED READING:

*There are many wonderful books about what you are doing right now. If you’d like to know more about the nature of musical learning & performance, or the science of sound,  etc, check out these great reads:

  • “The Inner Game of Tennis” by G. Timothy Galloway

  • “Effortless Mastery” by Kenny Werner

  • “Tone Deaf & All Thumbs” by Frank R. Wilson

I look forward to a wonderful year of music making. Thanks to all for your support of the arts and of our musical community. If you have any questions, please ask! See ya soon. Tim
